Sweet black cherry, blackberries, boysenberries, subtle baking spices. Palate is joyful and bright filled with juicy berries and framed by tannins and gentle rocky minerality. The Perez family founded Castro Ventosa in the Bierzo region in 1752, now owned by Raúl Pérez, a leading award-winning winemaker in his own right and champion of the Bierzo appellation. The Mencía varietal is indigenous to Bierzo, with some thinking it is an ancient clone of Cabernet Franc. Castro Ventosa is named after ancient Roman ruins where the family vineyards are planted; this rabbit label bottling comes from over 300 plots of old vines from the region.
