2019 vintage notes:

Dark cocoa, bright boysenberries, springtime forest, chestnuts. Palate is vibrant berries on a leather structure. 100% Syrah, 11 months French Oak.  "Ex Umbris" was introduced as a one-time bottling in 2002 after a wild-fire struck the vineyards' surrounding hillsides. The residual ash and smoke resonated in the Syrah grapes, creating a memorable wine.  Due to demand, they continue to make this wine (minus the smoke and ash!) from several exceptional vineyards in the Columbia, Yakima and Walla Walla Valleys to keep the story alive.

 

2017 vintage notes:

100% Syrah. "Ex Umbris" was introduced as a one-time bottling in 2002 after a wild-fire struck the vineyards' surrounding hillsides. The residual ash and smoke resonated in the Syrah grapes, creating a memorable wine.  Due to demand, they continue to make this wine. "This 2017 shows deep purple hues in the glass and mouthwatering aromas of candied sugarplum and fresh red raspberry swirl throughout. The slight slate and vanilla notes are interlaced with juicy flavors of blackberry jam, Bing cherry compote and subtle hints of cocoa nib." DuBrul, Outlook, Red Willow, Union Gap vineyards. Aged 8 months neutral French Oak. Columbia Valley, WA
